Engines
The major
search engines have recently released their top search queries
for 2006. Although they may vary slightly from search engine to
search engine, celebrities are generally at the top of the lists.
Britney
Spears, Jessica Simpson and Paris Hilton feature prominently
on all the major search engines. Web 2.0 websites like MySpace.com
and Wikipedia
also featured strongly in many of the overall searches.
Top Ask.com Searches for 2006
Even without the help of Jeeves, the Ask search engine is still
delivering millions of searches each year. The top overall searches
at Ask included MySpace, Dictionary, and Games. Popular celebrities
included Chris Brown, Britney Spears and Steve Irwin. While top
news searches at Ask included President
Bush, the War in Iraq, Bird Flu, and "Gas Prices"
came in at number 5 in the news.

Top Google.com Searches for 2006
The big daddy of all search engines is without doubt Google. The
Google Zeitgeist has a range of top tens in a number of categories,
including top searches by country.
Their overall top 10 searches included Bebo, MySpace, and World
Cup. The news searches at Google included Paris Hilton, Orlando
Bloom, and Cancer. Another interesting listing of Google searches
were the Who is, Where is, What is, and Where is page of searches
at Google.

Top Yahoo.com Searches for 2006
Yahoo has also released a comprehensive list of lists for their
top searches in 2006, with search categories that include top
10 overall searches, news searches, celebrities, politicians,
sports searches, and most popular searches by country. The overall
searches had Britney Spears at number one, WWE (wrestling) at
number two, and the booty shaking Shakira at number three. The
top 3 most searched for politicians included George
W. Bush, Arnold
Schwarzenegger, and Bill
Clinton (Hillary
was number 4 on the list).

Top MSN Live.com Searches for 2006
Microsoft has rebranded MSN search into Live.com in 2006. Live
has listed the soccer/football player Ronaldinho as number one,
which is quite a change to the other major search engines with
their American celebrities dominating the top ten. The top travel
searches at Live.com had Las Vegas, Mexico, and Hawaii in the
top three positions.
